Last night the four of us were sitting around the kitchen counter after I got home from work which is our standard weeknight behavior. Darby and Marlo usually have some kind of homework and our island in the kitchen is kind of our gathering place. Lura or I generally cook dinner (if it's a structured dinner night) and there is usually a glass or two of wine involved.
We were all doing our thing as usual last night when it dawned on me how much we laugh as a family. Some of it is externally driven, it's not unusual for us to be watching The Daily Show, Colbert or a Seinfeld rerun (go ahead try to stump us in Seinfeld trivia), but often it's just one of use making some kind of joke in our varied and differing styles. It got me thinking as we were doing our normal thing to do a single blind pole.
I passed out 4 sheets of paper and four pencils and asked everyone at the same time to write down the maximum time we go as a family without someone laughing. This excluded times we aren't all together which is a lot, sleeping, etc.. Everyone wrote down their answers and turned over their paper at the same time.
Darby, Marlo and Lura all wrote down 10 minutes and I wrote down an hour.
I think that's pretty amazing. There must be some kind of study that correlates how happy you are with how much you laugh. We are pretty happy I think.
