I think I need some professional help here.. Since starting Lijit I have been glued to watching our stats. Adoptions, usage, etc. I can't stop. Early on, I wanted to draw trends where there weren't any. It's just in my nature. If you are the CEO of a startup, all you have are stats. You can't really measure revenue (at least we can't…yet), but you can measure how many people use your stuff. If you aren't measuring this stuff, how do you know what you are doing???
Every, month, every day, every hour…. Yes, every minute …. We want to outperform yesterday… It ain't that hard, just make today better then yesterday.
I'm so obsessed with it that I have large screen TV's in our office display this stuff for all of Lijit to see. If numbers aren't going up, then what are we all doing here?
Tonight (Sunday), as I watch, John & Kate plus 8 (I live in a family of girls), I had my laptop open on the kitchen counter. I watched our network searches increase to our all time high (5 minute update). That's a good sign - seeing as it's a Sunday! Typically a Sunday is about 20% less than a Tuesday or Wednesday. My prediction is this week will rock!
In fact, I'm such an obsessive compulsive on this subjective, I got jacked into a panel on the subject at SXSW, Monday March 10th, - Titled "Startup Metrics for Pirates: AARRR! (Dave McClure)". That's cool; I eat and breathe this stuff. See you in Austin! Mean while – I can't wait for this Tuesday!!!!!
AARRR!
them look like some scurvy stats thar, matey! see ye in the lone STAARRR state real soon... ;)

I would like to comment on this excellent article, and by doing so, subsequently see a change in my own company's graphs, but since I can't, I won't.
