His company, FiltrBox was kind of stealth most of the summer and just recently I got a demo of the technology. In fact, Ari set me up with an account. I have been getting alert emails and watching stuff fly by for a couple weeks. FiltrBox is like a Google Alerts on steroids with graphs and other cool stuff.
I think they have some cool ideas and a nice start on a platform to exploit those ideas. Naturally, I also have Google alerts set up on all kinds of stuff including the keyword "lijit". As the months have gone on I have found that Lijit has risen to a level of interest that now Google Alerts are next to completely useless to me.. Why? Splogs! Here is one of 20 alerts I got today (Sunday) on Lijit. The last line just plain makes me laugh..
It's pretty nonsensical of course, because a computer somewhere put it together and published it (based on real posts, on real blogs) all designed it to attract the Google crawlers and promote some other low-life website. But the "ahh" moment for me was thinking about FiltrBox. Google will never solve this.. Why? Because, Google is busy printing money in the back-room, and they just don't care. Google alerts are a nerd add-on (rather than "strap on") that someone at Google thought of.. It's not a business for them.
For FiltrBox however, this could be a great product for people like me to 'BUY'.. Keep working it Ari, I think there is gold in those hills.
